ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES
There are some topics that are traditionally not included in formal classroom instruction but that could make the difference in a child’s interest and attitude towards the learning environment. Staff and parents at BCCS strive to encourage the interests of all students and generate an enthusiasm for learning by offering classes on special interest topics each year.

Topics offered vary, based on the availability of instructors. Parents are often an important resource for these special classes. Some topics offered in the past include photography, horsemanship, bowling, golf, art, chapel singing, computers, Spanish, German, French, sign language, and karate.

In addition to the enrichment classes offered at BCCS, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students participate in the exploratory classes offered at Kalamazoo Middle School. These special classes, held for five days each year, extend class room learning and provide opportunities to delve more deeply into areas of interest. Some of the past offerings have included WWII and the Holocaust, watercolors, Greek myths, Orienteering, Christians and the NFL, Money Management, It’s the Law, German, Broadway Musicals, and others.

BAND
Band is offered as an after-school activity in cooperation with the area home school organization. Transportation is provided. The band performs several concerts each year and participates as a pep band at sporting events.

Builder's Club
Developing leadership skills is important as we work to prepare our students for a life of Christian service. Participation on the Builder's Club is offered to 6th-8th grade students. Their activities include:

• yearbook production
• chapel leadership
• School-wide activities
• Christian service projects
• fundraising (usually food or concession sales)

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Our physical education instruction is part of the regular curriculum for Kindergarten through 8th grade. Special physical education units such as bowling, golf, swimming, gymnastics, skating, and skiing are sometimes offered to provide skills for the students to carry into their adult lives.

INTER-SCHOLASTIC SPORTS
Inter-scholastic soccer and basketball are offered to students in 5th through 8th grades. Volunteer coaches are needed each year to make this possible.

Cheerleading and girls basketball and volleyball are also offered depending on the interest, the number of students available, and the availability of a volunteer coach.

Participation in all inter-scholastic sports is contingent on academic performance.
