ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES
There are some topics that are traditionally not included in formal classroom instruction but that could make the difference in a child’s interest and attitude towards the learning environment. Staff and parents at BCCS strive to encourage the interests of all students and generate an enthusiasm for learning by offering classes on special interest topics each year.
Topics offered vary, based on the availability of instructors. Parents are often an important resource for these special classes. Some topics offered in the past include photography, horsemanship, bowling, golf, art, chapel singing, computers, Spanish, German, French, sign language, and karate.
In addition to the enrichment classes offered at BCCS, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students participate in the exploratory classes offered at Kalamazoo Middle School. These special classes, held for five days each year, extend class room learning and provide opportunities to delve more deeply into areas of interest. Some of the past offerings have included WWII and the Holocaust, watercolors, Greek myths, Orienteering, Christians and the NFL, Money Management, It’s the Law, German, Broadway Musicals, and others.
